About me - Hello Parents!

and trusted adults!

I'm Alan Harrison.

  1. "Soft science" is any of the specialized fields or disciplines, as psychology, sociology, anthropology, or political science, that interpret human behavior, institutions, society, etc., on the basis of scientific investigation for which it may be difficult to establish strictly measurable criteria.

  2. I chose social psychology and worked in the tourism industry.  My first university lectureship was at Surrey University in 1974.  I have taught and been an examiner on a postgraduate course on Educational Management within the Open University.

  3. "Hard science" is about establishing strictly measurable criteria.

  5. I retired in 2000 and took up hard science in a big way.  Recently, I started looking at artificial intelligence in the context of spacetime application.

  6. All my life I have been interested in the stars and why they exist. On this blog I  share my passion for the subject.

  7. This Blog is intended to give you support when helping your children learn about science.

  8. Fascinated at school by a compass point being turned by a nearby low voltage electric wire, I went on to a more than a passing interest in astrophysics and astronomy.  However, the behaviour of children towards each other led to social psychology.

  9.  I have been a Primary School Governor during and before which time I taught science topics within the present children's website on an informal basis over a period of  several years.

  10. Primarily, I am an educationalist: i.e. a person who has a special knowledge of the principles and methods of teaching.

  11. That also requires being an educationist who is a specialist in the theory of education. I hold a MAster degee in Education (Edinburgh 1982).
