 Make sense of this!

Image posted from source unconnected to the Star-Globe.  You'll soon find your way            using the Star-Globe

1   Introduction

  1. The UK company has an extensive range of teaching and learning resources.

  2. The Star Globe is being assembled starting on 5 April 2021.

  3. It is suggested that children of 14 and older could manage to complete it unaided.

  4. The project is recommended for its ingenuity and learning potential.

2    The Star-Globe
  1. "The StarGlobe shows the whole celestial sphere.  and it is an ingenious three-dimensional star chart which works at any latitude for any time and date.

  2. The Star-Globe itself rests in a simple cradle which shows the horizon. This means that you know which way to look to find and identify the stars, constellations and planets.

  3. Because it works for any latitude, it can be used to demonstrate facts about the universe and the night sky which are otherwise very difficult to explain and understand.

  4. There is a minibook which is full of ideas and background information."

3   General instructions

4   The components

  1. The globe.

  2. The cradle which holds the globe.

  3. The minibook which sits under the cradle.  It describes experiments, facts and ideas about the celestial sphere

  4. The calculator  which sets the globe,  and a tape-measure to determine star elevation.

  1. Assuming that a few readers will choose their own method for whatever reason, we start with page 3.

  2. Item 2 - the advice is to use a ball point pen which has run out of ink.  Normally, every ball point pen you pick up has run out of ink!  However, press on.

  3. Item 3 - it has been decided to allow much more sticking area for all joined surfaces.

  4. Item 5 -  it has been decided to form the four pages and then stick them together.

6  A typical section

You note that most edges have extra sticking space beyond that recommended.

As you proceed, you know which to cut as recommended.

7  Taking shape

8  Read the instructions first

8.1

There'll be times when things don't go to plan.  In Item 7 , glue is inserted and spread with a strip of cardboard.

8.2

When needed, internal manipulation does the trick.

8.3

You may need a surgeon's mask, gown and tweezers (see 10) (even pegs) at times if you haven't followed the instructions.

8.4

There'll be times when licking the globe into shape becomes exciting!

9 Almost done!

                                                                         Bottoms up!

10  Tweezers

Yes, tweezers [?] are needed sometimes to fold the tiny edges as you see above near the top.
