--------------------------------------------------------

There are plenty of images of robots.  We'll see a range later.

1  Robots

  1. Progression is inevitable.
  2. They need not look like humans.

  3.

  4. Perhaps non-scientists hope they'll break down.

  5. Most robots are not artificially intelligent.

  6. Up until quite recently, all industrial robots could only be programmed to carry out a repetitive series of movements which do not require artificial intelligence.

  7. However, non-intelligent robots are quite limited in their functionality.

2  What are the Major Fields of Robotics?

  1. Operator Interface: A robot must be able to communicate with its human controller. The interface is the mechanism of communication between the person and the robot. For example, a joystick controller for a video game is an interface used to communicate with the game.

  2. Mobility or Locomotion: Locomotion is how the robot gets from place to place--how it moves in its environment. Mobility can be achieved with wheels, legs, fins, propellers, and much more.

  3. Manipulators and Effectors: The parts of the robot that interact with objects may touch things, pick them up, place them in containers, spray them with paint, and more. Examples include claws, pushers, and mechanical arms and fingers.

  4. Programming: Programming is how you talk to a machine. Some forms of advanced programming allow a robot to learn and adapt to changes in its environment.

  5. Sensing and Perception: A robot needs information from sensors to know where it is, to go where it needs to go, and to avoid obstacles.

3   Ten musts for robot designers

Brown and blue text below is additional to original text. As are ^  ^^  ^^^.

3.1   Human Responsibility

3. 1.1
Robots and AI * are the creation of humans. Humans cannot ignore the laws that govern them, neither their responsibility in applying those in their capacity as creators or users.  ...

* Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions ^. The term may also be applied to any machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-solving.

3.1.2
And therefore can be programmed to think like humans including criminals and mimic ..

3.1.3
criminal learning and problem solving

4   Physical Integrity

Robots and AI do not kill or harm.

5  Moral Integrity

5.1
Robots and AI are intended not lie, do not hide and cannot go against any entity endowed with the power of reason. They respect human dignity before, during and after their death.

5.2  Privacy

Robots and AI are intended not to divulge personal data, information and inner thoughts intrusted ^ to them, nor any information related to humans, unless initially agreed^^. If need be, humans can at any point overpower robots. ^^^

^       Of USA origin.  entrusted

^^     initially agreed with whom?  The government? The dictatorship? The criminal gang?

^^^   Usually, it is considered that computers, machines and/or robots will eventually reach, or even overtake human intelligence. This idea is supported by many advances in AI. ... Computers already exceed human algorithmic calculations, among many others.

6  Algorithm

  1. “Algorithm” is a word that one hears used much more frequently than in the past.

  2. One of the reasons is that scientists have learned that computers can learn on their own if given a few simple instructions.

  3. That’s really all that algorithms are: mathematical instructions.

  4. Wikipedia states that an algorithm “is a step-by-step procedure for calculations.

7  Neutrality

Robots and AI are intended to judge neither human behaviours, nor human values either explicit or implicit; robots intended to be incapable of creating, storing or formulating any such judgement.

8  Mental Integrity

Robots and AI are intended not to act using human’s senses to harm their souls.

9  Wellbeing

Robots and AI are intended to ease human labour.

10  Education

Robots and AI are intended to help humans become better individuals and help humanity navigate its expending landscape of knowledge and diversity.

11  Ethical Behaviour

Robots and AI are intended to detect conflicting situations where rules regulating them are self-contradictory. In full respect and compliance with human’s right to privacy, they collect and report the facts and their implications to their owner or user.

12  Pluralism of opinion

  1. Robots and AI are intended to organize data openly and without discrimination (including gender, sexual orientation, marital status, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, age or disability).

  2. They are intended to present facts and information to humans in a fair, proportionate and transparent manner. Robots and AI detect and report cases where the information can be artificially overweight.
