First question for you.

This is an example of how you could interact with your child/ren.

  1. The girl asks you 'Will the apple fall?'

  2.
  3. You reply 'Not if you keep still'.

  4. Why?'

  5. 'Because you're holding it up.'

  6. 'But I'm only holding the seesaw handle.'

  7. 'Ah!  Good point.  Your weight is greater than the apple and the other half of the seesaw'.

  8. 'Are you saying I'm heavy?'

  9. 'No, just heavier than the other side of the seesaw.'

  10. 'What happens if I put a lot more apples up there?

  11. 'You might go up, down or the seesaw might balance.'
  12.

  13.  'Why is one duck in the air?'

  14.  'Because it's lighter.'

  15. 'Good!  That's enough for now.'

  16. You could continue later by exploring the weight of the left-hand duck being greater even though it looks the same size as the other duck.

  17. How could it be heavier if it's the same size?

  18. It's mass is greater.  Perhaps it eats different food or drinks more water than the other duck.

  19. From there you could go in different directions.

  20. To the moon, for example.  Read here and interpret.  Talk about a few of the questions in the left hand column.
