This is an example of how you could interact with your child/ren.
- The girl asks you 'Will the apple fall?'
- You reply 'Not if you keep still'.
- Why?'
- 'Because you're holding it up.'
- 'But I'm only holding the seesaw handle.'
- 'Ah! Good point. Your weight is greater than the apple and the other half of the seesaw'.
- 'Are you saying I'm heavy?'
- 'No, just heavier than the other side of the seesaw.'
- 'What happens if I put a lot more apples up there?
- 'You might go up, down or the seesaw might balance.'
-
- 'Why is one duck in the air?'
- 'Because it's lighter.'
- 'Good! That's enough for now.'
- You could continue later by exploring the weight of the left-hand duck being greater even though it looks the same size as the other duck.
- How could it be heavier if it's the same size?
- It's mass is greater. Perhaps it eats different food or drinks more water than the other duck.
- From there you could go in different directions.
- To the moon, for example. Read here and interpret. Talk about a few of the questions in the left hand column.
