- Have pupils access to foam balls of various sizes? They could have painted them.
- What is a planet?
- In groups of eight they could hold one planet each and arrange themselves in order.
- They could draw a picture such as

- Each group could use an A4 (best A3 etc) sheet to depict sizes and interplanetary distances.
- (This could lead to a fair-weather field exercise to include distance scale. Much later.)
